Reduce, Reuse,Recycle
.

If I am not wrong, we, Iranian, were the inventors of this item J
It was a slightly older version and used to be called “Zanbil”.
Back 20 years ago, in my young mind of a 10-year old kid, I would think that this is for poor people or villagers! Today, after being told of its environmental role, I am convinced that it is an essential item for both poor and rich!
I believe one of the problems that developing countries such as Iran are facing is that they do not receive the whole package of modernism. Not that the whole package is better but, once they get their hands on a piece of it, they become greedy for that very piece and try to have more and more of that. So, let’s go shopping and more bags you carry, more important (rich and fancy) you look! Something that intellectuals should admit that regular people are drawn to it until they find their way to be an intellectual. Unfortunately, things get so out of hand that even at the very top our lawmakers also forget about the basics of keeping the balance and all the sudden you hear: “Oh, we are proposing to build 10 plants!”
In fact one of the things that these days make me to be proud of Iran (by the way the list is really thinning) is the ability to live with the minimum. So perhaps one way that in Iran we could promote saving the planet is to suggest ways that save people money and at the same time to live with dignity. Someone with a good advertising mind could dig out the basics of environmental conservatism from our own heritage and promote them as a new and “modern” item. Remember that people do not want to go back in time, but they essentially have the same emotional and logical take on the day-to-day topics as they did 50 years ago!
One important factor in succeeding this path is to start with the minds of young age. If you let them to waste resources for 20 years and then introduce them to save the planet perhaps you have lost a good 20 years!
